Overview
The Department of Pharmacognosy is an essential branch of pharmaceutical sciences that focuses on the study of natural products derived from plants, animals, and minerals used in medicine. The department plays a vital role in the exploration, identification, and utilization of these natural sources for therapeutic purposes. Pharmacognosy is probably the oldest of the modern sciences that involves the study of Natural Products, Phytochemistry, Ethnopharmacology and Traditional Medicine, Herbal Drug Standardization and Formulation, Pharmacological Evaluation, Drug Discovery and Development, Nutraceuticals, Research and Innovation. The department of Pharmacognosy at Dr. Narayanrao Chate College of Pharmacy was established in 2023. Faculty members of our institute with Immense experience in teaching and research, modern labs, sophisticated instruments and high quality research output are the strength of the department. Non-teaching supportive staff with variant abilities is the added advantage to the department .

Objective of Pharmacognosy Department
- To involves the identification, physicochemical characterization, cultivation, extraction, preparation
- To know the evaluation techniques for the herbal drugs as per WHO and ICH guidelines
- To know the techniques of quality control, and biological assessment of drugs
- To Gain Knowledge of crude drug and techniques used in the cultivation and production of crude drugs
- To acknowledge the preparation and development of herbal drug formulation and their interaction.
